Eleuthera . . .here we come!

It was not without some degree of trepidation that we made a much considered decision to hike out of Kingston on this, out first post-pandemic long distance trip. Apart from health considerations, there were also flight scheduling challenges, but once overcome we were ready to roll.

The trip south to Eleuthera was a three day venture, overnighting in Toronto, and again in Nassau.

This time we struck lucky, booking into a hotel 5 minutes from the airport, and with a decent restaurant in-house.

The pool was included in the deal, but no real time to enjoy this winter luxury, as we had an early flight the next morning.

Hire car waiting for us at Governors Harbour airport upon arrival, and only a 10 minute drive to our new home away from home for the next while.

Not so much has changed since we were last here in early 2020. The pace of life is relaxed, although it’s taken us the best part of a week to slow down and acclimatize to the rhythm.

Morning walks have been a treat. No snow or ice to contend with. Local folk greet you with a wave as you encounter them, and there is . . . peace and quiet!

Cappuccino? Least said the better. Those who know our taste for good coffee will not be surprised at a hint of disappointment, particularly at US$7 a cup! But these are small things.

Simply put, we’re happy to be out of our covid bubble and intent on getting back to some semblance of normal.

back to snow, ice and reality!

All good things come to an end. What a vacation it's been. So good to have Jenn join us these past couple of weeks. Family vacations are precious commodities, as we all weave our way through life. We're blessed.

Whether it's a beach picnic, or strolling the sands, we've just been chillin'.

The island is a little like a ship in the ocean, totally subject to weather coming in off the Atlantic. A wild blustery day, with patches of hot sun, then torrential downpours.

Spent the morning searching out potential alternative accommodation . . .  in anticipation for next year. No way to avoid spectacular views, and beaches of course!

Not much to do excepy mooch around, and enjoy. Ah! Life is hard.

A fellow resident downtown, no tan though.

That's reserved for beach goers . . .

Last night, thoroughly thumped . . .

But this morning, and bright, blustery new day!

Island Farm . . .the go-to for fresh veggies, bread, and other goodies

Then . . .  down to the beach, never too far away. 

 

This morning, shared the water with an Eagle Ray, which can grow up to 10 feet in width, and 24 feet in length, including their tail.

Back on the beach, and discovery of a piece of driftwood.

Yes, it would look elegant in the front garden.

But, no, you can’t take it home

And that’s final!
